Went to whitechapel gallery for It all begins with a thread, a show themed with string, quilts, embroidery. Creativity in a collective form, not at all satisfying. It asks questions about art or craft. Bad knitting or exciting expression. There was probably a lot of pleasure taken in the production of the quilts , but the panels were pedestrian and dull. There were some photos connected by twine that appeared in the images, maybe fun to produce but left me frustrated. The range of the exhibition was small, lgbtq+ groups , handicapped women and some form of mental health therapy in the quilting. A large webbing grid with identically sized booklets could have been a piece of information or a joke . Can there be a Norfolk trans quilting collective? And why produce a pamphlet when a quilt would do.
