a clever use of the old parlour game to stimulate collective cretaivity, It was popular with the surrealists in 1920’s and 30’s. It started as an artists party game but quickly became a recognised method of searching the psyche

Monday’s class explored ‘exquisite corpse’ with a B&W body, followed by a coloured choice, our table counter instructons chose a theme of Botanical Joy with pleasing but rather anodyne results, more chocloate box than surrealist.

I found it very exciting and stimulating. The method was used by Michael Landy when he was artist in residence at the National Gallery. An unusual choice , Landy used the exquisite corpse methodogy to create a sculptural and collage show Saint Alive https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rF3bMmrAe7M
