Its All in the Ink: monotype

After a day learning how removing ink by wiping is the essence of dry point printing, we were sent away to explore the joy and frustration of monotype. Using a inked surface, paper laid on top and marks made , with fingers, pencils brushes, an impression is made and the results are remarkable.

We used quick drying water based ink and newsprint, and experimented.

It’s all in the ink , too wet and the paper soaks up the ink, too dry and the faded marks are frustrating

Sometimes the serendipity of the unexpected throws up a thing of beauty

But the joy comes when serendipity and intention produce a result.

It will take a long time to learn how to learn to wrangle ink, i worked with it for many hours and am still mystified. I intend to work with more inks, different papers, and larger scales. Like all printing Monotype is a mysterious and deeply satisfying art
